President Obama traveled to Portsmouth, New Hampshire Tuesday for his first post Presidential campaign ‘town hall-style’ meeting geared to garner support for his healthcare overhaul agenda.
MSNBC’s Ron Allen had reported that cameras filmed a “protester” with a handgun strapped to his leg hanging near the town hall-style at New Hampshire meeting featuring Mr. Obama. The man was seen carrying a sign saying “It’s time to water the tree of liberty,” and was sighted just before Mr. Obama arrived the meetng.
The man’s “tree of liberty” sign is a reference to Thomas Jefferson, who said “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
Police assured that the man’s gun was legal, because he was on private property — i.e. a nearby church. Police say his gun was registered and he could keep it on him as long as it was not concealed.
The police kept a close eye on the man and it was reported that he wasn’t there when the president finally arrived a few hours later.
It was later revealed that the man known as William Kostric of Manchester, N.H was a member of a rightwing group known as the Free State Project organization.
We are keeping an eye on this story.
