Sam Mangwana (born February 21, 1945), is an Angolan national and a migrant in Congo where he became a famous Congolese soukous vocalist.
He was born to a Zimbabwean migrant father and Angolan mother in Angola, Sam Mangwana, has been singing for most of his life.
In his early years, Mangwana formally studied music as a member of the Salvation Army Chorus.
Mangwana began his professional career in his teens becoming the lead singer of the group ‘Tabu Ley Rocherau’s’ at the age of 17. He was with that band for 10 years during which time he performed with every known Congolese musician of any worth.
In 1976, he formed his own band called the ‘African All Stars’, in 86′ their single “Maria Tebba,” became a huge soukous hit. He sings in seven different languages, both African and European.
