http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXe3uRL3gog&feature=player_embeddedWhile addressing a huge crowd of youth supporters on Oct. 23, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni decided to show off his rap skills.

Declaring his recent discovery concerning “the black African roots of hip hop music,” Museveni proceeded to lay down some wicked lyrics of his own in which he narrated an old folklore popular in parts of Uganda.

A music producer captured the rhymes and later put them to beats, creating the song “U Want Another Rap?” with Fenon Records.

In the video here one sees the president rapping a tune that has electrified Uganda these past few weeks. Known as “Yes Sevo,” the chorus line added by the producer, this song could open up another solid career path for Mr. Museveni who has been president in Uganda for more than 20 years now. Sevo is a common nickname for the president in Uganda.

Nsharira omunda y’engoma
Y’engoma, y’engoma, y’engoma

Translation

Verse 1: The stick I cut strayed into Igara where Ntambiko reigns. Ntambiko gave me a knife which I gave to millet harvesters, who gave me millet, that I gave to a hen, which gave me an egg, that I gave to children who gave me a monkey that I gave to the king, who gave me a cow that I used to marry my wife. She gave me a child I called Mugarura who raided back what belonged to me and my fathers.

Verse 2: Give me my stick! Invaders from Ngarama have arrived, shaking their bums like Rutendegyere. May thunder strike Rutendegyere from above where there is abundance that helps the rhinoceros to thrive. The rhinoceros feeds but reamins ready for a buffalo attack. The buffalo, whose meat is salty. The salt that comes from Nsharira deep inside the kingdom.
